I don’t know how long this practice has been going on, but I am still not confortable seeing active and retired military wearing their uniforms to church on the Sunday before Memorial Day. The main reason this is offensive is that the troops don’t defend our freedoms, even though that phrase has been recited thousands of times today in churches all across the country. It is time to reread Jacob Hornberger’s wonderful article, "The Troops Don’t Defend Our Freedoms," which was posted on LRC on October 22, 2005. This article should be reread every Memorial Day.
