Question: editing mp3 files in SoundTrack Pro, then exporting them in aiff, bringing them into iTunes to have the same original setting. How is this done?
Thanks to Martin of creativecow.net here is the answer.
Click on the song file, and "get info" which tells one the original file compression settings before it was taken into the editor, as indicated below,

You now can see the bit and sample rate of the original file, which is what you want to bring the edited file back to from the editor.

Going to Preferences in iTunes you have the above option. Click on Custom, which brings you the following:

Notice that the Stereo Bit Rate is 32? It must be so for the mono file to then be 16. If you set the Stereo Bit Rate to 16, then the resulting mono would be half that, 8. The obove settings leave the following results, which is just the same setting as teh original.

Then, after you have this set up, open the file you want to compress in iTunes. Once it is open in iTunes, you can "right click" the file and then give the command "Convert to MP3" with the foremade compression settings already in place.

Then lastly, you can delete the large file, and keep the smaller compressed file.

There you set up the compression settings in iTunes, then brought in the file, right clicked on it to "convert to mp3" creating two files of the same name, then deleting the larger one (if desired to free up hard drive space) and having the smaller one able to share more easily through e-mail, or uploading such to a website.
